Better than “Just Do it”

….We all know Nike’s slogan “Just Do It.”

It’s the one that’s supposed to make us all feel inspired to get our butts off the couch, jump into a tracksuit, and be the best that we can be.

Let’s face…it’s vague.

I mean do what?

I came across a better one from Ben Settle from the Ben podcast.

It’s also a simple one, but more productive.

“Is what I’m doing the best use of my time?”

You can use it for any situation you find yourself in.

…Stuck waiting in the doctor’s or dentist’s waiting room?

“Is what I’m doing the best use of my time?”

Maybe bring a kindle, book, or pen and paper and make that time more productive.

….Watching another episode on Netflix?

“Is what I’m doing the best use of my time?”

Maybe you’re better ditching it for today and start plotting or finding images for your next kids book.

…Wasting time trying to get create the perfect book cover?

“Is what I’m doing the best use of my time?”

Maybe a quick visit to and hiring someone else to do it would be time better spent. You could work on book promotion instead.

You could even use this thinking for your financial decisions.

Is it worth me buying the latest piece of software that’s going to distract me from my book business and possibly be useless in the next two months.

Would it better to learn a skill like learning how to plot your books, one that you can take with you for the rest of your writing career?

I don’t know about you, but having a skill that’s going to make me more money, is one I’ll always spend money on.

Go here to learn that skill.

So instead of …”Just doing it,” do something more productive with your time.

Try it out over the next few days and I guarantee you’ll become more productive.
