How To Win The Comparison Game

…ever compare yourself to someone else? – Of course, you have.

And do you ever notice that when you do, you’re always the worst of the two?

They’re always better. – They’re always better looking. – They’ve got more friends, – They’ve got more money. – They’ve got…

You get the idea.

If you’re playing that losing game right now, because it is a game you can’t win, here are three things to keep in mind…

Stop Looking Outward And Start Looking Inward

One of our biggest problems is we look outward at those that are ‘better than us’ but never inward.  We never compare ‘us’ to us. We never compare this version of us to the one that was here last month, last year, a decade ago. – That’s the only race we’re in.

If you want a challenge that’ll make more of a difference in your life that, it’s to be a better version of yourself.

We’ve All Been Given Different Starting Points

It would be nice to start life with a starting point of good looks, a wealthy family, and amazing genes. like those people, you compare yourself to. But like a random toss of the dice, or being thrown out of a plane, we all start in different locations.

And if we’ve all been given random starting points, you can’t really compare your journey to someone else’s.  Because your journey will never be like theirs no matter how much you want it to be. – A better use of your time would be to focus on your journey from where you started and not someone else’s.

Stop Looking Forward And Start Looking Backward

I know that no matter how much I tell you to focus on your own lane, your eyes are going to divert from time to time. Problem is, when it does it’s always to the people who are ahead of us. – And when you look ahead of yourself, you’re always the loser.

But what if in those moments of madness ( because trying to win a losing game is madness ) you looked back toward the people that are behind you? – Because although you think you’re at the back of the queue, you’re at the front of someone else’s queue.

And surprisingly ( for us anyway ) those people would love to be where we are.

Living where we are. – Having the knowledge that we have. – Having even the beginnings of an online business that we have. –  Having the small piece of courage that we have.

Because as the saying goes there’s always someone worse off than you. – And there’s always someone behind you.

Now that doesn’t mean that you’re better than them, but just that the starting point that you have is better than the one they’ve been given. – Be grateful for that.

While it’s not possible to win the comparison game. Because you’re always going to pick opponents that you can’t compete with. There is a way to use it to your advantage.

Use those people you compare yourself to as the carrot to lead you forward, than as the stick to beat yourself with.

Use them for motivation, and not desperation for where you are.

Better to focus on your own lane, because that’s the only place you can make any difference in.

Because you and your journey can never be compared or replicated.
