…right now, you’re in one of the following mental time zones…
The Past – This is where some of us like to go to. It’s the perfect moment when that ball went in the net, you had the best Christmas, and the world seemed rosier than it is now.
The past however can also be an unpleasant place. There’s the graveyard of regret, the queue of people that wronged us, and those moments of embarrassment and humiliation.
The Present – For some of us this place is better than the past, there’s a distance between what went wrong and where we are, and questions we once had were finally answered,
But for all its knowledge, and improvements, staying here too long means that things never change, we never look upward and onward, and we stupidly believe that things will always be this way.
The Future – This is where our dreams come true. It’s a magical place filled with sunshine and rainbows and you’re guaranteed to have everything work out for you.
Although for all it’s good, its uncertainty is its Achilles heel. – When you don’t know what’s around the corner, what’s up ahead, and the knowledge that we don’t know, makes it unsettling for us to be there too long.
While all have their positives they’ve also got their disadvantages.
Dwelling on the past gives us an excuse to play the victim because we’ve got the proof for being where we are.
The future leaves us unhappy in the now… always chasing a carrot we’ll never catch.
And the present… it’s a sign of the future if we never change.
Use them wisely.
Use them to push you from where you started, to remind you of how blessed you are, and to know that the future can always be better.
Because you and the future can always be better.
And time, if you use it correctly, will show you how : )
