My Dancing Days Dilemmas

My Dancing Days Dilemmas
My Dancing Days Dilemmas

…ever have one of those moments when you want to do something and you also don’t want to do it?

That was me, pre-Mrs Mac, on a Saturday night at our local disco.

Hearing the music slow down, and knowing the slow sets were coming up, I used to get butterflies in my stomach.

If I wanted to dance with a girl, I was going to have to ask one out.

‘That would be a good start,’ says you.  🙂

And as I’d wander around, looking for someone that wouldn’t shoot me down in flames, I’d see a girl I’d like to ask out.

‘I’m going to do it…..Oh no, I’m not.’

‘What is she says yes?… What if she doesn’t?’

And there I’d stand like a bunny (better yet dummy) in the headlights not moving.

Before you know it, she either got asked out by someone else, or I’d lose my bottle and wander back to my friends. – Complaining that it was a tough crowd that night.

On those nights when I didn’t make a move, I’d always replay that moment over and over in my head and curse myself for being such a chicken.

When I did take action, and got shot down in flames, that was different. – I tried, but I was just too good-looking for her.  : )

A moment of embarrassment but I got it out of my system.

Now, I don’t know if you’ve ever been in that situation, but it’s funny how we can talk or talk ourselves out of it.

The majority of times we take the safe option, it’s one that we usually regret doing.

Make a mistake and goof up and it’s out of our system. – We tried, let’s move on.

Don’t do it, and we think of all the things that might have happened if we took action.

Not knowing the answer to that, can leave you running imaginary scenarios over and over in your head, frustrating the hell out of you.

I’ve learned that the worst thing you can do is to haggle with yourself.

Because 99 times out of a 100, you’ll always go for the easier option.

It’ll always be what you did before.

It’ll always be what’s easier to do.

It’ll always be what’s going to keep you safe in your little bubble.

But afterward, it never feels right.

It never answers the question…could I have done it? What if I tried? Would I still be where I am right now?

Faced with a tough decision,  it’s usually better to go for the choice that’s more difficult.

It’s only then that you’ll go to places you’ve never gone to before.
