…whether you like it or not, we’re all selfish.
How do I know?
Because we’ve all got that little recording going around and around in our heads…’What’s in it for me?’
Why should I buy your car?
Why should I go see your movie?
What’s the benefit for me in doing that?
How’s that going to help my life?
Why shouldn’t I just buy that widget off Bob down the street?
Even if you think your pee’s as pure as Evian, and you fart Chanel perfume…those heavenly thoughts still have a hint of the ‘What’s in it for me.’
Most of the time any of those goods deeds are backed up with the ‘I’m going to get a good feeling out of doing this’ and that’s why I’m going to do it.
Same goes for your readers, customers, or anyone else you have dealings with.
You can write the most amazing book, create the best training product, or even spend six hours researching and writing the greatest blog post….the majority of people don’t care.
Because they’re all looking at it from their point of view.
Why should I read your book?
What’s the point in me spending five hundred bucks for ten videos?
That’s a ten thousand word blog post, why should I read all that?
It’s up to your to tell them why.
So the next time you’re being told that you can create a business doing nothing, write a two page book and make thousands a month, or whatever harebrained scheme you’re being sold this week…pause for a second and look at it from your buyer’s point of view…
‘What’s in it for them?’
If you can’t find a good enough reason, it’ll never get off the ground, no matter how good the sales letter tells you it is.
So…why did I write this email?
Well, to get a chance to be in front of you today, to maybe sell you a product, and if not, to leave with a good feeling that I’ve probably passed on a little wisdom to someone…and maybe made them think twice about listening to some eejit.
We’re all selfish
How about you?
Why’d you bother reading this far?
Knew it….you selfish so and so!
What can I say? I’m all ‘me’ at heart.
