…here’s a lie you’ve probably been fed since you came online.
“The goal is to make passive income and retire to the beach.”
But let’s break that down for a moment.
Is there even such a thing as passive income?
Something you set up, can forget all about, and then spend your days like Scrooge McDuck playing on your cash pile.
In 99% of cases, unless Daddy Warbucks is sending you monthly cheques every month, that’s not going to happen.
You’re still going to have to monitor it, tweak it, and keep an eye on it so it continues to payout.
Having a few Bitcoins means you’ll be watching the markets on a daily, if not hourly basis, in case the bottom falls out of the market and you’re back to zero.
Real Estate, well, if you’re not managing and taking care of your properties yourself, you’re keeping an eye on the guy you hired to do that job.
Blogging, anything could happen to that income too. Google could knock your best-performing pages to the bottom of the search results, or your niche could get competitive, meaning that more people are fighting for slices of the pie.
Digital courses, also aren’t immune to time either. If you’re not keeping the content fresh and up to date, you’ll find that you start losing out to others that are providing better advice. And if you’ve tapped out the market, those earnings have only one way to go.
And as for retiring to the beach?
How long is that fantasy going to last before you’re bored out of your head?
Heck, even Robinson Crusoe spent all his time trying to get off his island. – And he wasn’t even on his own.
And when you think but it, if you’re trying to get passive income from something because you don’t want to deal with it anymore, is that the right thing to be doing?
To be miserable for a few years, so you won’t have to do it anymore?
Because if you aren’t going to be happy doing what you do for the next 5, 10, 20 years without that magical passive income showing up, maybe it’s time to rethink that plan.
And as for that passive income dream you’re being sold, it’s usually by those that haven’t got that laptop lifestyle either.
Funny that? – People selling products and lifestyles they haven’t even got themselves.
I’ll leave it at that before I go off on a rant. 🙂
Have a good one!
